In the Himalayas, where snow-capped peaks kiss the sky, a group was born. Inspired by the unwavering spirit of Climate Front India and Climate Front Jammu, a group of passionate individuals in Kashmir decided to create their own local chapter, Climate Front Kashmir (CFK)
Salmeen Hussain, a former volunteer with Climate Front Jammu, played a pivotal role in establishing CFK. With his infectious enthusiasm and unwavering commitment to environmental
causes, he rallied together a group of like-minded individuals who shared a deep love for their homeland and a desire to protect its natural beauty.
CFK quickly became a force for positive change in Kashmir. Volunteers from all walks of life joined the movement, united by a common goal: to safeguard the region’s fragile ecosystems
and promote sustainable practices. They participated in various campaigns, including the “Friends of Raika” initiative, which aimed to protect the Raika forest, and the “Farmers Protest,”
where they stood in solidarity with farmers facing the brunt of climate change.
One of CFK’s most notable achievements was their tireless efforts to clean up Kashmir’s pristine landscapes. Through countless volunteer drives, they removed waste from rivers, forests, and other sensitive areas, restoring their natural beauty and promoting environmental awareness.
Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, CFK took a temporary hiatus in late 2022. However, the spirit of the movement remained alive, and as time passed, the desire to revive CFK grew stronger than ever. Today, the organisation is witnessing a resurgence of interest, with new members eager to join the cause and carry forward the legacy of their predecessors.
As CFK prepares for a new chapter, they are determined to build upon their past successes and make an even greater impact on the environment. With the same passion, dedication, and unwavering commitment that characterised their early days, they are ready to face the challenges ahead and create a sustainable future for Kashmir.
