CLIMATE FRONT – INDIA: A FAMILY FOR CHANGE

In the heart of India, a movement was born. It wasn’t just a gathering of people; it was a family
united by a shared passion: protecting the planet. Climate Front India (CFI) was more than an
organisation; it was a beacon of hope, a testament to the power of collective action.

It all began in the bleak days of the second COVID-19 lockdown. As the world retreated indoors,
a small group of individuals, driven by a deep concern for the environment, came together. Their
energy was palpable, their determination unwavering. They knew that even in the face of
adversity, they could make a difference

They were us, people of Climate Front India.

Our journey began with a simple yet profound campaign: “Nature Ki Raksha.” Inspired by the spirit of Rakshabandhan, a festival celebrating the bond between siblings, we connected the protection of nature to the protection of loved ones. Volunteers across India embraced the cause, spreading awareness and taking action to safeguard their local ecosystems.

The campaign ignited a spark within CFI. We realised that our impact extended far beyond online activism. We needed to see the problem firsthand, to experience the consequences of human indifference. So, we launched the “Collect Your Waste” campaign, challenging ourselves to live without purchasing anything from the market for a period. The results were eye-opening: the sheer volume of plastic waste we generated was a stark reminder of the crisis facing our planet.

Inspired by our findings, we at CFI turned our attention to the rivers that flowed through our communities. We organised clean-up drives, not just to remove debris but to raise awareness about the pollution plaguing these vital waterways. On 19th September 2020, The “Friends of River Tawi” campaign was launched which saw a resounding success and garnered coverage from various online news platforms such as Doordarshan and ANI along with other local and national media which inspired others to join the cause.

As CFI’s reputation grew, so did our involvement in broader environmental issues. We worked on the EIA Campaign and we stood in solidarity with farmers during the Farmers Protest, recognizing the ill-effects of climate change on their community. In January 2021, we came forward to protect forests like Raika and Dumna, using innovative campaigns like “Valentines with Raika” and “Valentines with Dumna” on 14th February 2021 to engage people on a personal level.

But what truly set CFI apart was not just our achievements, but our spirit. We are a family, united by a common purpose. Our members support each other, encourage one another, and we celebrate our victories together. Working with CFI feels like coming home, a place where passion and compassion are nurtured.

Climate Front India is more than an organisation; it is a movement, a testament to the power of human connection and the unwavering spirit of environmental activism. Our story is a beacon of hope, inspiring others to take action and create a sustainable future for generations to come.
