In the vibrant city of Jammu, a movement was born. It began in the bustling city of Chandigarh, where a group of young students from Jammu and Kashmir were inspired by Greta Thunberg’s
call for a global climate strike. They realised the urgency of addressing the climate crisis, especially in their vulnerable Himalayan region.
Returning home to Jammu, they found their city grappling with political turmoil, with a communication lockdown in place. Despite these challenges, they were determined to spread awareness about the climate crisis. On Diwali, a festival traditionally marked by fireworks, they organised a peaceful march against the use of firecrackers.
Defying the odds, despite the restrictions imposed by Section 144, marched through the streets, their voices echoing with determination. The people of Jammu, touched by their courage and
passion, rallied behind them, offering their support and encouragement.
Inspired by this initial success, the group formed Climate Front Jammu (CFJ), establishing an Instagram page and a WhatsApp community. They embarked on a mission to educate their
fellow citizens about the pressing issues of climate change. Through “Extinction Conversations,” they engaged in open dialogues, sharing knowledge and fostering a sense of urgency.
One of their most impactful campaigns was a tribute to the Australian wildfires during the festival of Lohri. By highlighting the connection between fire and climate change, they raised awareness
about the devastating consequences of uncontrolled wildfires.
CFJ’s efforts extended beyond their local community. Their educational seminars attracted students from various schools, inspiring a new generation of environmental activists. Even the
COVID-19 pandemic could not dampen their spirits. They continued their work, organising virtual events and advocating for environmental causes.
As CFJ’s influence grew, they realised that their impact could extend far beyond Jammu. They welcomed members from across India and even from abroad, uniting them under a common cause. This led to the formation of Climate Front India, a national organisation dedicated to addressing the climate crisis.
As we reflect on the remarkable journey of Climate Front Jammu, we find ourselves filled with a sense of wonder and hope. Their passionate efforts remind us that every small step towards
protecting our nature creates ripples of positive change. Let us embrace the beauty of our planet, sharing laughter and inspiration as we march onward, hand in hand, toward a vibrant
and sustainable tomorrow, painted with the colours of nature’s bounty and the promise of a harmonious existence
